Boise State Wins Award for Excellence in Fund Raising
The Council for Advancement and Support of Education has named Boise State
University a winner of a 2006 CASE-WealthEngine Award for Education Fund
Raising. The award honors superior programs across the country based on
fund-raising data submitted in annual reports. Boise State was one of 44
higher education institutions recognized from among the 504 that were
considered.
Universities are selected based on either overall performance or overall
improvement in fund raising. In Boise State’s case, the award was given for
both categories based on the judges’ analysis of three years of fund-raising
data in which the university increased not only the dollar value of
donations, but also the number of donors.
Factors the judges considered include the number of students enrolled, the
number and dollar amount of pledges and outright gifts, the breakdown of
donors (faculty, alumni, parents, community members, etc.) and corporate
donations, among other factors.
The University Advancement team at Boise State has focused its efforts on
matching potential donors with programs that will help the university
achieve its goal of becoming a metropolitan research university of
distinction. Several new development officers have been hired over the past
three years, helping to raise donations from less than $5 million in FY03 to
more than $18 million in FY05. During that same time period, the number of
donors increased from 5,282 to 5,705.
“Boise State is proud to be recognized by CASE for the excellence of our
fund-raising efforts,” said President Bob Kustra. “This award indicates the
momentum that is building for the university. Friends of the university are
responding to our ambitious plans with private funding for student
scholarships, endowed faculty chairs, new buildings and program resources.”
The university’s largest donations last year included approximately $3
million toward the Caven-Williams Sports Complex, $2.5 million from the
estate of Jody DeMeyer for an endowed chair in nursing, a $1.7 million
donation in laboratory equipment from Micron Technology and $1.1 million
from the Nampa Industrial Corporation to help fund a technical building on
the BSU West Campus.
