Boise State Radio Begins New Radio Series, Highlighting
Local Artists
Award winning journalist Jyl Hoyt to host
Boise State Radio’s special projects director Jyl Hoyt will host a new radio
series highlighting local artists and arts groups in Idaho. Art Beat debuts
this Wednesday, July 12, on NPR News 91 and KBSU-FM.
The 4-minute Art Beat airs every other Wednesday at 6:35 a.m. and 8:35 a.m.
during Morning Edition on NPR News 91 and at 11 a.m. on KBSU-FM. In her
first show, Hoyt visits with local painter Fonny Davidson.
Hoyt has had a lifelong interest in art. “Early in my career, I filed many
stories for National Public Radio’s art show,” she said. “When that show
closed I felt an emptiness in my life. Creating Art Beat was one way to fill
the void and, more importantly, find a vehicle for the many artists in Boise
State Radio’s listening area to tell their stories. After all, it is artists
that tell us who we are and help us define our communities.”
Hoyt was recently honored with her fourth Excellence in Journalism award
from the Society of Professional Journalists. In 18 years she has collected
48 first place awards from the Idaho Press Club. Hoyt earned a master’s in
journalism from the University of Montana.
