Radical labor’s fiery crusade against the power of big corporations is hot
reading in an “Idaho Sees Red” spring/summer issue of the state’s
award-winning history journal. Idaho Yesterdays returns to the
violent 1890s, when socialists organized unions in Northwest forests and
mines. Lavishly illustrated, this issue features color photographs,
historical prints, labor art and a delightfully satiric but nearly forgotten
series of labor cartoons.
The journal of Rocky Mountain history and culture is jointly published by
Boise State University and Idaho State University for the Idaho State
Historical Society. The Spring/Summer 2006 issue will be available in late
July at Vista Book Gallery, Idaho Book and Gift and Borders or directly from the Center for Idaho History and
Politics at Boise State. Call (208) 426-2710 or e-mail
Nancytacke@boisestate.edu.
A companion Web site at
www.idahoyesterdays.com features expanded essays, educational
links and lesson plans for using the journal to teach fourth-grade Idaho
history.
Revived in 2004, the popular journal debuted in 1957 and served as a
valuable academic journal of Idaho history for 45 years. Due to state budget
cuts, publication was suspended in 2002. The journal’s editorial board is
made up of faculty from Boise State, University of Idaho, Lewis-Clark State
College, Brigham Young University-Idaho and College of Southern Idaho.
