July 18, 2006 An illustration by Bill Carman, a Boise State University associate professor of art, was recently accepted for inclusion in the book "Spectrum 13: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art." "Spectrum" is an annual publication that has established itself as a leader in the fantastic art world. Locus Magazine has called the books "Charming, sublime, exotic, horrific: a valuable window on the year’s fantastic art. In a word, indispensable." The selection process is intensely competitive. More than 4,000 works were submitted, and Carman’s was one of 14 winners. His work, "Carnivore Pond," received a Silver Award in the Unpublished category. "Carnivore Pond" was first shown as part of Carman’s "Blue Glass Circus/Carnival" show at the Basement Gallery in Boise. This is the second time that Carman’s work has been selected for "Spectrum," and he said that "Carnivore Pond" "really lent itself to the spirit of ‘Spectrum.’ " "I feel very honored to have been chosen to participate with the best in the business," Carman said. "Spectrum 13" will be published by Underwood Books in November.
