Boise State Student One of Five Chosen for Scholarship to Study in Canada

A Boise State student is one of five students from the Northwest who will share in $20,000 in scholarships to study in Canada during the 2006-07 school year. The Canada America Society of Washington, in collaboration with the Canadian Consulate General Seattle and Pacific Northwest Canadian Studies Consortium, announced the awards.

Elizabeth Albl, Boise State, along with three students from the University of Washington and one from Western Washington University, will receive $4,000 to further her undergraduate studies. Albl, 21, from Boise, will attend the University of Northern British Columbia to study linguistics.

The Canada America Society of Washington is an association of Canadians and Americans interested in promoting the U.S.-Canada relationship through cultural, business and collegiate activities. The scholarships were created in 2002 to encourage American undergraduate students in Washington, Oregon and Idaho to choose a Canadian university for their study abroad experience. Winners may attend any Canadian university and undertake any field of study.

The scholarship is the only one of its kind in the United States, and since its creation $55,000 has been awarded to 27 students.
