Bronco Welcome Kicks Off the Boise State School Year

Incoming students are about to get a big Bronco Welcome at Boise State University. This year’s back-to-school activities, which begin Aug. 14 and continue until Sept. 8, include barbecues, concerts, festivals and chances to learn more about Boise State and college life.

This year’s schedule includes:

Aug. 17
Annual International Programs Office and Cultural Center Barbecue. 6-9 p.m. Ann Morrison Picnic Shelter. Free. Open to new international students. Sponsored by the International Programs Office and the Cultural Center. Call 426-3652.

Aug. 18
“Benchwarmers.” 10 p.m. Boise State Amphitheatre. Free. Screening sponsored by the Student Programs Board.

Aug. 19
Moon Festival. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., event begins at 6:30 p.m. Student Union Jordan Ballroom. $10 general, $5 students with ID, children younger than 6 free. Tickets through Select-a-Seat, 426-1494. Sponsored by the Vietnamese Student Association.
“Dating and Relationships” with MJ Garrett from MTV’s “Real World: Philadelphia.” 7 p.m. Boise State Amphitheatre. Free.
Live music. 8-10 p.m. Free. Boise State Amphitheater.

End-of-Summer Concert. 5:30 p.m. Quad. Free. Sponsored by Boise State Christian Campus Ministries. Call 336-9091.

Aug. 21
Info Tables. 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Students can learn more about Boise State by visiting the information tables that will be set up around campus.

Aug. 23
On-Campus Student Job Fair. 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Student Union Jordan Ballroom D. Free. Students can learn about and apply for on-campus employment at this second annual fair. Visit http://career.boisestate.edu or call 426-1747.
Campus REC Day. 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Student Union Patio and Intramural Field. Free. Students can learn about everything the REC has to offer. Sponsored by Campus Recreation, 426-1131.

“Energize, Refuel and Learn.” 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Student Union Patio. Free. Students can learn about healthy snacks and cooking ideas while enjoying free food and music. Sponsored by Health, Wellness and Counseling Services.

Aug. 25
“The Buzz About College Drinking.” 9-10 p.m. Student Union Special Events Center. Free. Students can explore the world of college drinking and leave with the tools to make informed choices about alcohol. Presented by Health, Wellness and Counseling Services and the Orientation Office.
Up All Night in the SUB. 10 p.m.-2 a.m. Free. Featuring speed-dating, great food, prizes and more. Sponsored by the Student Programs Board.

Aug. 26
Service Saturday. 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Student Union, first floor by the Brava! Stage. Registration begins at 9 a.m. Students can join fellow Boise State students in serving the community at one of four non-profit or charitable organizations in the Boise area. Aug. 28
Faculty/Student Grill and Chill. 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Quad. Free. Students can grab great food and get to know the faculty.

Aug. 29
“Get an Education, Not Just a Degree.” 7-9 p.m. Student Union Special Events Center. Free. This program is designed to help students make the most out of college inside and outside of the classroom. Sponsored by Health, Wellness and Counseling Services and the Orientation Office.

Aug. 30
“Get Smart, Start Smart!” 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Free. Students can get expert advice about study skills, time management, textbooks, tests and more. Sponsored by Academic Support and Tutorial Services.
Intercultural Remix. 4-6 p.m. Student Union Cultural Center Lounge. Free. The Cultural Center’s open house will feature music, performances and food. Visit. http://culturalcenter.boisestate.edu.

Aug. 31
SPB Family Tailgate Party. 5-7 p.m. Bronco Stadium Parking Lot. Free. Boise State vs. Sacramento game begins at 7 p.m.

Sept. 5
“Space or Face? Using Online Communities Safely.” 4 p.m. Student Union Hatch Ballroom B. Free. Featuring a discussion about sites such as MySpace and FaceBook. Sept. 6
Volunteer Fair. 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Student Union Jordan Ballroom. Free. Students and the community can meet more than 50 non-profit organization representatives from the Treasure Valley area and learn about volunteer opportunities in the community. Sponsored by the Volunteer Services Board, the Service-Learning Program and the United Way of Treasure Valley Volunteer Center.
Student Organization Fair. 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Students can learn about the more than 200 student organizations at Boise State.
Albertsons Library Birthday Celebration. Free. Enjoy a piece of cake to celebrate the library’s anniversary.

Sept. 7
Student Services Fair. 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Quad. Free. Students can check out the services available to students and score a few freebies. Sponsored by Academic Support. Call 426-4049.
Bronco Blitz. 4:30 p.m. Student Union Patio Entrance. Students can get a Boise State T-shirt for $1 and get ready to cheer on the Broncos when they play Oregon State at 5:30 p.m. in Bronco Stadium.

Sept. 8
Study Abroad Fair. 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Student Union Jordan Ballroom A and B. Students can learn about opportunities to study outside of the United States. Call 426-3652.
