MacDonald’s jewelry incorporates mixes of silver, gold and found objects such as rusted metal and painted tin.

"The dichotomies of life intrigue me the most — the way our most divine impulses coexist with out most earthbound ones, or the way our most serious moments also have an aspect of humor, if you can just step back from them" she writes in her artist’s statement. "That’s why you’ll find contrasting materials and images in my work, like metals alongside rusted steel, or sterling silver cast in the forms of brittle-looking twigs and branches."

Participants in the workshop are required to have basic sawing, filing and soldering experience; knowledge of basic hand tools will be helpful. The class will stress design, drawing, problem solving and fabrication techniques, and will be structured around a series of lectures and demonstrations with plenty of time for individual attention and work. Students will work with traditional and alternative materials and will finish with jewelry or small objects that are meant for adornment, expression or personal importance.
