Aug. 15, 2006 Boise State Professor Larry McNeil Receives Prestigious National Geographic 'All Roads' Award Larry McNeil, a professor of photography in the Art Department at Boise State University, has been honored with an "All Roads" photo award from National Geographic. The "All Roads" awards showcase the film and photography of indigenous and underrepresented minority cultures. McNeil is the only American winner of the 2006 photography awards; the other recipients are Iranian, Mayan and Bangladeshi. McNeil is a member of the Tlingit and Nisga’a nations of Alaska and British Columbia. McNeil is being honored for his "fly by night mythology" mixed-media series, which includes pictures of his family and elements of his culture. National Geographic calls the work "a distinctive perspective on Native American biculturalism." The organization will present McNeil and the other photography winners with seed money, cameras and photo equipment. As part of the award, McNeil has been invited to the All Roads Film Festival celebrations in Los Angeles on Sept. 28-Oct. 1, Washington, D.C., from Oct. 5-8, and Santa Fe, N.M., from Dec. 6-10; his works will be on display during the events. McNeil ’s art is currently on display closer to home; his body of work "Keet H’it, Killer Whale House," is featured at the Sun Valley Center for the Arts in Hailey. It will be there until Oct. 20. At 7 p.m. Oct. 25, McNeil will give a lecture at the Center.
