EVENTS OF SPECIAL NOTE:

Through Sept. 12: Bronco Welcome Get to know Boise State, fellow students, faculty and more during the Bronco Welcome. From rafting trips to barbecues to fun, informative lectures, students can learn all about being a Bronco. Find out about the dozens of things to do by visiting http://broncowelcome.boisestate.edu.

Jade Bar-Shalom Memorial Service. Student Union Jordan A&B Ballroom. 3 p.m. A memorial service for Jade Bar-Shalom, co-founder of the Books for Israel Program. Attendees are encouraged to bring a book suitable for children in grades K-12 to donate (no flowers please). Sponsored by Alpha Phi Sigma criminal justice honor society. Free. TUESDAY, AUG. 29

Candidates’ Forum. Student Union Jordan Ballrooms A-B. 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Presented by the Center for Public Policy. Free. Call 426-1476.

Religion in Life Lecture. 1929 University Drive. 12:15 p.m. Come hear Vaughn J. Featherstone, a former Albertsons executive and LDS Church General Authority. Free. Call 344-8549.

Get an Education, Not Just a Degree. Student Union Building Special Events Center. 7-9 p.m. Join this interactive, high-energy kick off to help you make the most of your collegiate experience. This program is designed to help you get the most out of college both inside and outside of the classroom. Sponsored by Health, Wellness and Counseling Services and Orientation Office. Free. Tai Chi Tuesdays. Quad. Noon-1 p.m. Students, faculty and staff are invited to take a few minutes, up to an hour, to enjoy the calming practice of the ancient martial art of Tai Chi. Bronco Bash Tailgate. Alumni Center. Two hours before the game. Back by popular demand, the Alumni Association continues to offer alumni and friends a place to gather before the Boise State football games. Featuring a host of activities and performances by the Maneline Dancers and the Spirit Squad. Free. Call 426-1698.

Student Programs Board Family Tailgate Party. Stadium Parking Lot. 5-7 p.m. The SPB offers the whole family a chance to show their Bronco pride and get their faces painted. Bring the whole family. Free. Contact 426-1728.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 1

Silent Lunches. Cultural Center. 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Every Friday, sign language and hearing impaired students will be having Silent Lunches. During this time, students will come, have lunch and sign. It is not a class, but rather a social group that will meet to practice signing. Free. 426-5950.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 2

Bruneau Sand Dunes Road Trip. Student Union Info Desk. 11 a.m. Enjoy a road trip, explore and slide down the dunes. This event, sponsored by Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, is a time to get connected with the Christian community on campus. Lunch is not provided. Free. Call 327-7791.

Bronco Blitz. Student Union Patio Entrance. 4:30 p.m. Students can get a Boise State T-shirt for $1 and get ready to cheer on the Broncos when they place Oregon State.

Blood Drive. Student Union Jordan Ballroom. 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Call 426-4240.

Black Cliffs Outdoor Climbing Days. 6-9 p.m. Sept. 7 in the Short Cliffs Area; 6-9 p.m. This event is also taking place Sept. 25 in the Mid Cliffs Area. Climbers must register at least 24 hours before each session. Enjoy an evening of outdoor climbing at the local cliffs. This is a great chance to experience climbing on Boise basalt. The Outdoor Program will string the ropes; all climbers will need to have passed a climbing gym belay check prior to participation. Fee includes leadership, helmets, ropes, shoes and harnesses. $13 each session. Call 426-1946.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 8

Del Parkinson Concert. Sept. 8: Morrison Center Recital Hall, 7:30 p.m. Sept. 10: Morrison Center Recital Hall, 4 p.m. Del Parkinson will perform a piano recital Sept. 8 as part of the Boise State Faculty Artist Series and repeat the performance on Sept. 10. The program, "Fair-Feathered Friends," includes several references to birds. The program will include the famous "Ritual Fire Dance" as well as selections by Liszt and Ravel and Russian and Spanish composers. $5 general, $3 seniors, free to students and Boise State faculty and staff. Study Abroad Fair. Jordan Ballrooms A and B. 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Talk to returned students, meet study abroad representatives and learn how easy it is to study abroad. Free. Call 426-3652.
