The 2006 Juried Student
Exhibition and the QueerID National Juried Exhibition will be on display from
Oct. 2-27 in Gallery One and Two, respectively, of the Boise State University
Visual Arts Center. Gallery One is located in the Liberal Arts Building and
Gallery Two is located in the Hemingway Center. The galleries are open from 10
a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon-4 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free.
Juror John Paul Ricco selected 25 works by 16 artists for the QueerID National
Juried Exhibition. The exhibition will feature works by artists from Boise,
London, Illinois, Massachusetts, California, Arizona and more.
Ricco is a critical theorist, curator and performance artist who is an assistant
professor of contemporary art, media theory and criticism at the University of
Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. He also coordinates the program in visual culture
and communication and is the author of “The Logic of the Lure.” In 1994 he was a
contributing author to “Gay and Lesbian Studies in Art History,” the first
anthology of its kind. His curatorial practice has primarily concerned issues of
gender, sexuality and AIDS.
A closing reception for the QueerID exhibition will take place from 5-7 p.m.
Oct. 20 in Gallery Two.
This year’s 2006 Juried Student Exhibition will be judged by Jane Beebe, owner
of PDX Contemporary Art in Portland. Boise State students may enter up to three
works, which should be delivered to Gallery One between 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept.
20-21. Eligible work must have been completed during the last calendar year,
which may include works from fall 2005, spring 2006, summer 2006 and the current
semester. A closing reception and announcement of awards will be from 5-8 p.m.
