Boise State University Celebrates Homecoming with 'Blueprints' Festivities

Boise State University students, alumni and fans are already getting ready for the big Homecoming game on Oct. 7 with service events, a parade, parties, a new community contest and a downtown “invasion.” This year’s schedule includes:

• Into the Streets. 9 a.m. Sept. 30, Student Union first-floor dining hall. Homecoming week kicks off with Into the Streets, an annual community outreach project that pairs volunteers with local community organizations. Boise State students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to aid more than 30 organizations. Most projects will be completed by noon. Call the Boise State Volunteer Services Board at (208) 426-4240 for more information.

• Toilet Bowl Flag Football Tournament. 4-10 p.m. Oct. 2, Bronco Stadium. The Toilet Bowl is one of the oldest Homecoming traditions, with participants playing on the blue turf of Bronco Stadium. Participation is open to anyone, but space is limited to only 16 teams. Registration forms are available at the Student Recreation Center through Sept. 25. For more information, call (208) 426-2447.

• Community Decorating Contest. Entry deadline is 3 p.m. Oct. 3. Bronco fans can gather their teammates and make a game plan to decorate their local businesses to show off their pride. First-place winners will be announced on Bronco Vision during the Homecoming game, and prizes will be awarded for first-, second- and third-place winners. Decorating kits are available at the Bronco Shop or online at www.broncoshop.com, starting at $24.99.

• Snow Cones on the Quad. 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 3, Quad. Pick up a free blue and orange snow cone. Sponsored by the Student Programs Board.

• Residence Hall Decorating Contest. Judging from 1-4 p.m. Oct. 4. The Boise State Alumni Association’s executive board has issued a challenge to the residence halls to see which can show the most spirit. The winning floor will be announced at the Student Spirit Competition on Oct. 4. The winners will receive a pizza party for the floor after the Homecoming game.


• Student Spirit Competition. 7 p.m. Oct. 4, Jordan Ballroom. Students can show off their Bronco pride for a chance to win a leather football signed by the Boise State football team. Sponsored by the Student Programs Board.

• Orange Invasion. 7 p.m. Oct. 5, the Grove Plaza and Downtown Boise. Before the Broncos invade the infield, they’ll invade Downtown Boise. Join former classmates, current students and Bronco fans at the Grove Plaza for a special presentation by coach Chris Peterson, Bronco team captains and select team members. Fans can enjoy entertainment provided by the Harvey Neef Maneline Dancers and the Boise State Cheer Squad. In addition, the following businesses will have special displays or offer Bronco deals: Artisan Optics, Bucket o’ Brew, Gallery 601, McU Sports, Salon 162, the Loft, Tully’s and Washington Mutual.

• Founders Leadership Society Reunion. 5:30 p.m. Oct. 5, Louie’s Italian Restaurant. Join members of the Founders Leadership Society for free food, fun and Homecoming spirit. Guests are welcome. • College of Health Sciences Putt-Putt Golf Tournament and Alumni Reunion. 4 p.m. Oct. 6, Boondocks Fun Center. Reception and Alumni Reunion, 6 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Hampton Inn and Suites, across from St. Luke’s-Meridian. Alumni and friends of the College of Health Sciences are invited to reconnect with old friends. For additional information or to RSVP, call Anita Castello at (208) 426-1678.

• 11th annual College of Business and Economics Friends and Alumni Reunion Golf Scramble. Noon shotgun start, Shadow Valley Golf Course. Friends and alumni are invited to learn about plans for the new business building, meet the new dean and reconnect with old friends. • 50 Years-Plus Class Reunion. 2 p.m. campus tour, 6 p.m. no-host cocktail reception, 7 p.m. dinner, Oct. 6, Allen Noble Hall of Fame Gallery. Members of the class of 1956 are invited to celebrate the golden anniversary of their graduation from Boise Junior College. All graduates from previous years also are invited to attend. • Student Spirit Parade. Noon Oct. 6, The Quad. Students can show off their pride during this special parade. Shopping carts that can be used during the parade can be picked up from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the Student Programs Board Office in the Student Union.

• 4th annual Men’s, 1st annual Women’s Lacrosse Alumni Games. 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Oct. 7, Student Activity Field. The Broncos will attempt to even the series to 2-2 as they go up against alumni in the 4th Annual Men’s Lacrosse Alumni Game. Following the men’s game, the women will square off in their first alumni game since their 2001 inaugural season. For more information, call (208) 426-2447.

• Stampede into the Streets Homecoming Parade. 2 p.m. Oct. 7, Broadway Avenue and University Drive. The Homecoming parade is one of Boise State’s oldest traditions, featuring floats from nearly 40 student organizations, community groups and high school bands. This year’s grand marshals are longtime Boise State supporters Allen and Dixie Dykman.

• Alumni Roundup Chili Feed and Reunion. 2-6 p.m. Oct. 7, Boise State Alumni Center. Parade watch, enjoy family activities, eat during the “world’s best chili feed” and tailgate during this celebration. Expect Buster, the Maneline Dancers and the Bronco Cheer Squad to make appearances. Call (208) 426-1698 for more information.

• St. Paul’s Catholic Student Center Alumni Reunion. Pre-game reception from 4-6 p.m. Oct. 7; 3 p.m. Mass and dinner Oct. 8 at St. Paul’s, 1915 University Drive. Donation of $10 per family appreciated, half of which will go into the St. Paul’s scholarship fund. • Boise State vs. Louisiana Tech. 6:05 p.m. Oct. 7, Bronco Stadium. Full-time students may pick up one free ticket and one guest ticket at any on-campus Select-a-Seat outlet beginning at 10 a.m. Oct. 2.
