‘Cardiac Kid’ Allen Dykman and His Wife, Dixie,
to be Grand Marshals at Boise State Homecoming Parade
Longtime Boise State University supporters Allen and Dixie Dykman will be the
grand marshals at the Stampede Into the Streets Homecoming parade at 2 p.m. Oct.
7. The parade will be at the corner of Broadway and University.
Allen Dykman was part of the Bronco football team dubbed the “Cardiac Kids” who
won the 1971 Camellia Bowl over Chico State. He graduated in 1974 and married
fellow alum Dixie Dykman soon after, eventually founding Dykman Electrical in
1981. Their business has been successful, with outposts throughout the West, yet
the Dykmans have always found time to support Boise State.
Allen Dykman is the only person who has served as the president of the Alumni
Association, the Foundation Board, and the Bronco Athletic Association. In 2002
he was the recipient of Boise State’s Silver Medallion award for his extensive
work in support of the university.
“Allen and Dixie Dykman are outstanding representatives of the type of Boise
State supporters the Alumni Association wants to honor by serving as grand
marshals for this year’s Homecoming parade,” said Dick Rapp, interim director of
the Alumni Association. “Allen served as our association president in 1984, and
he and Dixie continue to serve and support the Alumni Association and the
community in meaningful ways.”
The parade is one of many events planned for Homecoming, which kicks off at 9
a.m. Sept. 30 with Into the Streets, a community outreach project. For a full
