Anthropology Speaker to
Address Early Human Ancestors
Carol V. Ward, assistant professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia,
will speak Oct. 25 as a guest of the Department of Anthropology Lecture Series.
Ward will speak on the "Newest Fossil Evidence of the Earliest Human Ancestors"
at 2 p.m. in the Student Union Barnwell Room. The event is free. Call 426-3023
for more information.
Ward’s talk will focus on some of the more recently discovered hominid
fossils from East and South Africa and the application of functional morphology
to the interpretation of Plio-Pleistocene primate fossils.
Ward teaches anatomy in the Department of Pathology and Anatomical Sciences.
Her research interests include the evolution of humans and our closest
relatives, apes and monkeys. She has been central to the analysis and
interpretation of some of the earliest hominid fossils, including
Australopithecus afarensis and Australopithecus anamensis.
