Learned received his
undergraduate business degree in economics from Yale University, an MBA in
accounting from the Wharton Graduate School and his doctorate in business
strategy and entrepreneurship at Texas Tech University. Learned practiced as a
CPA with Arthur Young Company in Los Angeles. He was co-founder and president of
Learned-Mahn, a national developer and distributor of computer software, which
was sold in 1994.
From 1988 to 1994, Learned taught courses at Boise State and was twice chosen by
students as the Outstanding Teacher of the Year in the College of Business and
Economics. Most recently, he served as president of Albertson College of Idaho
from 1999 to 2003, and president of The Network Group, an Idaho business
technology company, from 2004 until 2006.
Learned has assisted many community civic activities over the years, including
the Boise Public Schools Foundation, the Boise Chamber of Commerce executive
committee, the Caldwell Chamber executive committee, Rotary Club of Boise,
TechConnect, the United Way and the YMCA.
He will be assisted in Region III through a vast network of SBDC resource
partners, including the Small Business Administration, Boise State, SCORE
business volunteers, TechHelp, the Idaho Department of Commerce, area chambers
of commerce, the TECenter business incubator, TechConnect and other small
business assistance programs available to all businesses in the region. To
