Enrollment Open for BSU Conflict
Management Program
Graduate level courses begin in spring 2007, will culminate in 12-credit
certificate
Enrollment is now open for graduate level courses at Boise State University
leading to a certificate in conflict management. Most courses culminating in the
12-credit certificate are one-credit classes or workshops and are available
nights and weekends. Although the program can be completed in a year, students
are also invited to take just one class at a time.
Coursework is aimed at helping working professionals and others understand and
respond to the interpersonal and group conflict that is inevitable within
business and civic organizations. Conflict management skills are valuable for
human resource professionals, business and non-profit managers and executives,
and others hoping to gain the skills that can help deal with conflict.
“The certificate program is first of all a resource for the state,” said program
director Suzanne McCorkle. “It provides information and skill assistance to help
citizens and students build their conflict management knowledge and skills.
Also, the 12-credit certificate is a shorter commitment than an entire master’s
degree for post-baccalaureate study.”
The certificate program explores the causes and productive responses to
interpersonal conflict in contexts such as third-party facilitation and
mediation, conflict in groups, facilitating high conflict meetings, culture and
conflict, negotiation, and conflict in business.
Students may elect either a generalist or mediation option. Those electing the
mediation option must complete fieldwork in mediation and a competency exam.

for an advising and admissions interview. Courses cost $290 per credit hour.
