This Week at Boise State
The following are upcoming events at Boise State University for the week of
Oct. 29-Nov. 4. Please note that all events are subject to change. For updated

EVENTS OF SPECIAL NOTE:
AORE Conference. Nov. 2-4. The 20th Annual Association of Outdoor
Recreation and Education Conference: Exploring the Next Dimension will include
events such as rock climbing workshops and mountain biking clinics. This
conference, hosted by Campus Recreation, will bring 500 professional educators
to Boise State. It will also feature the largest vendor exhibition in the
conference’s 20-year history. Registration encouraged by Oct. 23. Prices vary

EXHIBITIONS:
Through Nov. 8: “Juried Art Show: The ‘We are Family’ Exhibition.”
Student Union Gallery. 7 a.m.-11 p.m. This is a collection of family portraits,
interviews, video and sound, expanding traditional representations of the

SUNDAY, OCT. 29
David Saunders. Morrison Center Recital Hall. 4 p.m. Saunders, professor
of horn, will give a chamber music recital as part of the Faculty Artist Series.
$5 general, $3 seniors, free to students of all ages and Boise State faculty and

Gaurav Mazumdar. Student Union Special Events Center. 6:30 p.m. Sitar
concert by Grammy-nominated Mazumdar, a chosen disciple of Ravi Shankar. He was
the first Indian musician to perform live for the Pope at the Vatican. Presented
by Vedic Philosophical and Cultural Society of Boise State. Tickets $6 for

MONDAY, OCT. 30
Nightmare on University Drive. Student Union Jordan Ballroom. 6-8 p.m.
Families are invited to celebrate Halloween with kid-friendly festivities.
Activities include a costume contest, haunted hallway, scary stories, cookie
decorating and more. Student Programs Board is hosting the family event, which
will also include food, drinks, prizes and games. $3 for families with student

TUESDAY, OCT. 31
Fall Funk: Trick-or-Treat. Student Union. 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Student Programs
Board invites Boise State students, staff and faculty to trick-or-treat at their

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 1
Fall Funk: Nacho Bar. Brava! Stage. 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Student Programs Board
provides free lunch for students with ID. Call 426-1728.
Boise State Football vs. Fresno State. Bronco Stadium. 6 p.m. Call

Bronco Bash Tailgate. Alumni Center. 4 p.m. Free. Call 426-1698.
Broncoville Tailgate Party. Caven-Williams Sports Complex (next to Bronco
Stadium). 3 p.m. Broncoville features food vendors, kid games, big screen
televisions, music and more. The interactive tailgate is family oriented with no
alcohol and plenty of things for the kids. Free for those with a game ticket.

THURSDAY, NOV. 2
Fall Funk: Hot Chocolate. The Quad. 8:30-11:30 a.m. Student Programs
Board will provide hot chocolate, hot apple cider and coffee for Boise State

Book Discussion with Martin Orr. Albertsons Library Room 210 C. 2 p.m.
Orr, a sociology professor, will lead a discussion of Chapter 21 of “Mountains
Beyond Mountains,” a book by Tracy Kidder. Free. Call 426-1223.
Fettuccine Forum. Rose Room, 718 W. Idaho St. 5:30 p.m.; doors open at 5
p.m. Boise State history professor Errol Jones on the “Mexicans Among Us.”

Bra Project. Mosaic Essentials Gallery, 1021 Main St. 7 p.m. Coordinated
by the Women’s Center, this annual fundraiser for breast cancer awareness and
prevention includes art, music, food and a silent auction. Tickets $10 through
Boise State Women’s Center. Proceeds benefit the Breast Cancer Detection Center

Trombone, Choir and Ensembles. Morrison Center Recital Hall. 7:30 p.m.
This student recital is presented by the Boise State Department of Music.

“Get Physical.” Student Union Special Events Center. 8 p.m. The Idaho
Dance Theatre opens its 18th season with this performance, which features the
premier of artistic director Marla Hansen’s newest work, “Tenacious.” This event
also takes place Nov. 3 and 4 at 8 p.m. and Nov. 5 at 2 p.m. Tickets $12 seniors

FRIDAY, NOV. 3
MFA Reading Series: Janet Holmes. Liberal Arts Building Room 106. 7:30
p.m. Holmes, a professor at Boise State, will read from a new book of poetry
called “f2f.” The title is Web shorthand for “face to face,” and the book
explores the conceit of the sense of sight and the complex role it plays in

“The Barber of Seville.” Morrison Center. 8 p.m. Presented by Opera
Idaho. A comic opera in two acts titled “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” by Gioacchino
Rossini. Inspired by age-old comic themes, “The Barber of Seville” captures
audiences with its hilarious pranks, comedic chaos and witty wordplay. Tickets

Diverse Perspectives Series: “Shadya.” Student Union Barnwell Room.
5:30-7 p.m. Shadya, a 17-year-old Muslim girl, Israeli citizen and world karate
champion fights to win her independence from the traditional life expected by

“An Inconvenient Truth.” Student Union Special Events Center. 7 p.m. This
documentary focuses on Al Gore’s campaign to make the world aware of global
warming and its consequences for humanity. Critics and viewers alike have
praised the 2006 documentary. This film is rated PG. The documentary will also
be shown Nov. 9 and 10. Free for Boise State students, staff and faculty, $1 for

of Joe Baldassarre will perform in this recital presented by the Boise State

“The Return of the Hochunk: Reconciliation after 142 Years.” Student
Union Jordan A Ballroom. 3 p.m. Drs. Sheryl and Bruce Dowlin, professors emeriti
at Minnesota State University, will speak as guests of the Department of
Anthropology’s Friends of Anthropology Series. Free. Call 426-3023.
Fall Jazz Bash. Student Union Special Events Center. 7:30 p.m. The 8th
Jazz Bash features the Boise State Big Band and the Vocal Jazz Choir. The Big
Band will play a “Tribute to Maynard Ferguson,” while the Vocal Jazz Ensemble

Orchestra Festival features talented high school instrumentalists who will

“Antigone.” Morrison Center Stage II. 7:30 p.m. “Antigone” is Sophocles’
timeless and powerful examination of personal duty to family and faith versus
