• Student recitals:
          November 2: Trombone Choir and Ensembles — 7:30 p.m. Morrison Center Recital Hall. $5 general, $3 seniors, free to students of all ages and Boise State faculty and staff.
          November 3: Katie Matsuura senior recital, clarinet — 7:30 p.m. Morrison Center Recital Hall. Free.
          November 7: Studio guitar recital, students of Joe Baldassarre — 7:30 p.m. Morrison Center Recital Hall. $5 general, $3 seniors, free to students of all ages and Boise State faculty and staff.
          November 9: Piano recital featuring the students of Del Parkinson — 7:30 p.m. Morrison Center Recital Hall. Free.
          November 13: Mike Smith, tenor, and Erin Case, mezzo-soprano, senior recital — 7:30 p.m. Morrison Center Recital Hall. Free.
          November 16: Jeff Gander senior recital, oboe — 7:30 p.m. Morrison Center Recital Hall. Free.
          November 28: Jacob Nielsen senior recital, piano — 7:30 p.m. Morrison Center Recital Hall. Free.
          November 29: Elisa Barnes senior recital, soprano — 7:30 p.m. Morrison Center Recital Hall. Free.

 

November 1: “Armed Forces Salute” — 7:30 p.m. Meridian Middle School, 1507 W. 8th St. Free. Join the Treasure Valley Concert Band in its annual Veterans Day performance, “Armed Forces Salute.”

November 5: Orchestra concert — 7:30 p.m. Morrison Center. $5 general, $3 seniors, free for students of all ages and Boise State faculty and staff. The University Orchestra features student soloists from the spring 2006 concerto competition and the premier of faculty member Wallis Bratt’s “Lamentation for String Orchestra.”

November 8: Fall Jazz Bash — 7:30 p.m. Student Union Special Events Center. $5 general, $3 seniors, free for students of all ages and Boise State faculty and staff. The 8th Jazz Bash features the Boise State Big Band and the Vocal Jazz Choir. The Big Band will play “A Tribute to Maynard Ferguson” while the Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform “Music for the Young at Heart.”

November 9: Orchestra Festival — 7:30 p.m. Morrison Center. $5 general, $3 seniors, free for students of all ages and Boise State faculty and staff. The Boise State High School Orchestra Festival features talented high school instrumentalists who will perform Bizet, Britten and Copland.

November 11: Choral Festival — 12:30 p.m. Morrison Center. $5 general, $3 seniors, free for students of all ages and Boise State faculty and staff. Bruce Browne, professor emeritus at Portland State University, will be the featured clinician for the Choral Festival. He will be joined by Boise State music faculty Laura Rushing-Raynes and Christopher Raynes, who will work with choirs from Idaho and the Northwest. The festival also features a performance by the Boise State Meistersingers.

November 12: Symphonic Winds — 4 p.m. Morrison Center. $5 general, $3 seniors, free for students off all ages and Boise State faculty and staff. The University Symphonic Winds will present a concert of “Great Suites for Band” that will include Gustav Holst’s “First Suite in E Flat,” Percy Grainger’s “Lincolnshire Posy” and David Stanhope’s “Australian Fantasia” (including music that was composed for the opening ceremony of the 2000 Olympics at Sydney Harbor).

November 17: Lenny Schranze — 7:30 p.m. Morrison Center Recital Hall. $5 general, $3 seniors, free for students of all ages and Boise State faculty and staff. Guest artist Lenny Schranze, viola, of the University of Memphis will play an all-Brahms recital with pianist James Cook.

November 30: Nicole Molumby — 7:30 p.m. Morrison Center Recital Hall. $5 general, $3 seniors, free for students of all ages and Boise State faculty and staff. Flutist Nicole Molumby will perform with guests James Cook, Craig Purdy, Linda Kline Lamar and Sam Smith as part of the Faculty Artist Series.

November 30: Gene Harris Jazz Festival Endowment Night — 5 p.m. The Owyhee Plaza Hotel, the Reef and Hannah’s. $12 general, $5 students at the Qwest Arena box office. This Club Night-style events will feature the Boise State Big Band in “A Tribute to Maynard Ferguson” with guest artist Dennis DeBlasio. Visit www.geneharris.org for more information.
