Boise State University
Presents 'Shadya' as Part of the Diverse Perspectives Film Series
Boise State University will present screenings of “Shadya” from 5:30-7 p.m. Nov.
7 in the Student Union Barnwell Room and from 10-11:30 a.m. Nov. 11 in Room 102E
at Boise State West. The screenings are free and open to the public.
“Shadya” is the story of Shadya Zoabi, a charismatic 17-year-old karate world
champion from a traditional Muslim village in northern Israel. But despite her
father’s support, her brothers and other members of their small Arab village
feel that karate is not an appropriate pursuit for a young Muslim woman.
“Shadya” tells the story of a young woman who strives to succeed on her own
terms, while remaining committed to her religion and to life in her community.
A speaker from the Boise State Women’s Center will lead an audience discussion
following the movie. The Diverse Perspectives Film Series is a partnership of
the Independent Television Service, Idaho Public Television, and Student
Affairs, Student Activities, the Women’s Center and the Cultural Center at Boise
State University. For more information, call (208) 426-1223 or visit
