Nuclear Weapons Focus of
Panel Discussion at Boise State
A panel discussion on the state of nuclear weapons and the efforts to control
them will be held at Boise State University from 7-9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13, in
the Student Union Bishop Barnwell Room. “Nonproliferation: Closing the Nuclear
Clubhouse,” is free and open to the public.
The recent nuclear weapons test in North Korea, Iran’s push to enrich uranium
for reactor fuel and the United State’s efforts to build a new Manhattan Project
or Bombplex by 2030 raise the specter of more nuclear weapons, not less. This
panel will explore the current state of affairs with nuclear nonproliferation
and what direction the world could be headed.
Panelists consist of Boise State sociology professors Marty Orr and Michael
Blain, Boise State political science professor Ross Burkhart, and Jeremy Maxand, executive director of the
Snake River Alliance.
The evening is sponsored by the Boise State Political Science Association, Idaho
Progressive Student Alliance and Phi Alpha Theta, and the Snake River Alliance.
