‘Fade to Red’ Exhibition at
Boise State Focuses on HIV/AIDS
“Fade to Red,” an exhibition that focuses on HIV and AIDS, will be presented
from Nov. 12-Dec. 1 in the Student Union Gallery. The gallery is open from 7
a.m.-11 p.m. daily. An opening reception will take place from 7-9 p.m. Nov. 17.
The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.
“Fade to Red” is a juried art show featuring artists from the Pacific Northwest.
Boise State Student Activities and the Associated Students of Boise State
University are cosponsoring the exhibition, which includes paintings,
photographs, sculptures and other media.
The artwork of “Fade to Red” captures the gamut of emotions HIV and AIDS conjure
both domestically and throughout the world.
“We wanted to make it an educational exhibit,” said Taylor Newbold, ASBSU
Secretary of Public Relations.
The exhibition includes prints of artist Keith Haring’s work. Haring died from
AIDS in 1990, and his work is featured in museums around the world, including
New York, Paris, Singapore, London, Brazil and others. During his career, Haring
collaborated with performers and artists such as Andy Warhol, Madonna, Timothy
Leary and others.
Dan Scott and Sue Latta will serve as jurors for the “Fade to Red” exhibit.
Scott is an assistant professor of painting at Boise State whose work has been
collected nationally and internationally from a series of juried exhibitions.
Latta is a sculptor and MFA candidate at Boise State.
A portion of artists’ entry fees went to Allies Linked for the Prevention of HIV
and Aids (ALPHA) of Idaho. ALPHA is an alliance that was founded in 2003 and
works to bring knowledge, expertise and resources together to fight HIV and
bring local attention to the worldwide pandemic. A donation jar for ALPHA will
be at the “Fade to Red” exhibit.
