Artist Marie Watt to Teach
'Artist Skills Crash Course' at Boise State University
Artist Marie Watt will give an “Artist Skills Crash Course” from 1-2:30 p.m.
Dec. 6 in the Student Union Hatch A Ballroom at Boise State University. Her
lecture is sponsored by the Boise State Department of Art’s Visiting Artist and
Scholar Program and is free and open to the public. Parking will be available in
the visitor lot on the east side of the Student Union.
Watt is a multidisciplinary artist based out of Portland, Ore. Her class will
focus on how artists can define and refine their skills to begin or continue
successful careers. Topics will include career opportunities, the purpose of the
artist statement, and the local, national and international resources available
for artists.
Watt was born to the son of Wyoming ranchers and a daughter of the Turtle Clan
of the Seneca Nation (also known as Iroquois or Haudenosaunee). Watt identifies
herself as “part cowboy and part Indian.” Since 2005, she has been recognized
with a Joan Mitchell Fellowship, the Seattle Art Museum’s Betty Bowen Award and
an Eiteljorg Fellowship.
