Artist Marie Watt to Teach 'Artist Skills Crash Course' at Boise State University

Artist Marie Watt will give an “Artist Skills Crash Course” from 1-2:30 p.m. Dec. 6 in the Student Union Hatch A Ballroom at Boise State University. Her lecture is sponsored by the Boise State Department of Art’s Visiting Artist and Scholar Program and is free and open to the public. Parking will be available in the visitor lot on the east side of the Student Union.

Watt is a multidisciplinary artist based out of Portland, Ore. Her class will focus on how artists can define and refine their skills to begin or continue successful careers. Topics will include career opportunities, the purpose of the artist statement, and the local, national and international resources available for artists.

Watt was born to the son of Wyoming ranchers and a daughter of the Turtle Clan of the Seneca Nation (also known as Iroquois or Haudenosaunee). Watt identifies herself as “part cowboy and part Indian.” Since 2005, she has been recognized with a Joan Mitchell Fellowship, the Seattle Art Museum’s Betty Bowen Award and an Eiteljorg Fellowship.
