This Week At Boise State

The following are upcoming events at Boise State University for the week of Nov. 26-Dec. 2. Please note that all events are subject to change. For updated information on all events, visit http://events.boisestate.edu.

EVENTS OF SPECIAL NOTE:
November: Native American Heritage Month. The Cultural Center will celebrate with a series of events. All events are free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Boise State Cultural Center at 426-5950.

EXHIBITIONS:
Through Dec. 2: “Visual Babble: BFA Thesis Exhibition.” Visual Arts Center. This exhibition is the culminating activity for bachelor of fine arts students, and features works in sculpture, photography, painting, graphic design, illustration, ceramics and metals. Call 426-3994.

Through Dec. 1: “Fade to Red Exhibition.” Student Union Gallery. This exhibition captures the gamut of emotions HIV and AIDS conjure both domestically and throughout the world. The works move viewers to action and toward a better understanding of HIV and AIDS. Call 426-4636.

TUESDAY, NOV. 28
Meditation Group. Student Union Building (check kiosk for location). Noon-1 p.m. Students, faculty and staff are invited to enjoy the benefits of regular meditation practice. Free. Contact cberg@boisestate.edu.

Bronco Blitz. Taco Bell Arena Student Entrance. 5:30 p.m. Students who attend the basketball game can buy a blue Bronco T-shirt for $1 and win numerous prizes, including $500 worth of spring semester textbooks, an engraved Bronco iPod and more. THURSDAY, NOV. 30
Gene Harris Jazz Festival Endowment Night. The Owyhee Plaza Hotel, the Reef and Hannah’s. 5 p.m. This Club Night event will feature the Boise State Big Band in “A Tribute to Maynard Ferguson” with guest artist Dennis DiBlasio. ‘You, Me and Dupree.’ Special Events Center. 7 p.m. Student Programs Board presents this 2006 film starring Kate Hudson, Owen Wilson and Matt Dillon. Film is rated PG-13. Free for Boise State students, faculty and staff. $1 for public. Call 426-1728.

Speech Showcase. Student Union Jordan Ballroom. 7 p.m. Boise State communication students will present their semi-annual speech showcase. Emceed by professor Marty Most, the Speech Showcase is a keen competition between student public speakers. Free. Call 426-1907.

Nicole Molumby. The 12 Days of Fitness. Student Recreation Center. December 1-12. The Fitness Program wants to help you stay motivated and stress-free this December. World AIDS Day. Student Union Hatch C and D Ballrooms. 7 a.m.-6 p.m. In recognition of World’s AIDS Day, the HIV/AIDS memorial quilt will be on display. Holiday Auction. Student Union Jordan D Ballroom. 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Boise State Association of Office Professionals presents this luncheon with a live auction, silent auction and gift table. SATURDAY, DEC. 2
Photo Op: “The Adventures of Silence.” Albertsons Library McCain Room. 2 and 7:30 p.m. Dragon fights, feast music and battles will resound throughout the stacks of library books during this presentation by Boise State’s Medieval Drama Guild. This event also takes place Dec. 4 at 7:30 p.m. Free. Call 426-1213.

Minneapolis Guitar Quartet. Special Events Center. 8 p.m. The Minneapolis Guitar Quartet will perform as part of the December Classic Performances Series. The Quartet, founded in 1986, is one of the world’s leading guitar ensembles. Family Holiday Concert. Morrison Center Main Hall. 7:30 p.m. The whole family can enjoy the sounds of the holiday season. This year’s concert will feature performances by the University Orchestra, the Trombone Ensemble, the Faculty Brass Quintet, the University Choral Groups, the Flute Ensemble and the Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble. Food for Thought. Student Union Lookout Room. Noon. Konstanty Gebert, journalist and solidarity activist, will present “Poland: From Solidarity’s Drama to Democracy’s Mess.” Brown bag lunches available for $5. International Connections Luncheon Seminar Series. Clay and Fire Exhibition and Sale. Visual Arts Center Gallery 1 in the Liberal Arts Building. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. This event also takes place Dec. 10-11. Hundreds of high-quality ceramics, ranging from the elegant to the exotic, will be on sale. Proceeds benefit the Boise State Visiting Artists in Ceramics Series. Free. Call 426-3205.

‘Holidays Around the World.’ Student Union Jordan Ballroom. 11 a.m.-3 p.m. This multi-cultural event includes crafts, performances, refreshments, door prizes and more. Free. Call 426-5950.

‘Boise Tuba Christmas.’ The Grove, near the outdoor Christmas tree. 3:30 p.m. Tuba Christmas will also perform at 4:30 p.m. at the Statehouse Rotunda. Members of Tuba Christmas are baritone, euphonium, sousaphone and tuba players of all ages and abilities. Free. Call 426-1685.
