BSU Hosts Winter
Commencement in Taco Bell Arena Dec. 15
Boise State will host winter Commencement for August and December graduates at
10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 15, in Taco Bell Arena with President Bob Kustra
officiating. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. No ticket is needed for family and guests
to attend.
Parking is free; because of limited handicapped parking, family and friends who
cannot walk to the arena can be dropped off at the front of Entrances 1 and 2,
where volunteers will assist them with elevators, etc., while drivers park their
cars.
About 600 students are expected to attend the ceremony. In all, 1,394 students
have qualified for graduation since the May Commencement, earning a total of
1,478 degrees and certificates. Four students have qualified to earn doctoral
degrees: Teresa Lynn England and Rebecca Celia Maria den Hartog-King, doctors of
education in curriculum and instruction (Ed.D.); and Marc Leonard Buursink and
Timothy Chad Johnson, doctors of philosophy in geophysics (Ph.D.).
The Commencement ceremony will include the processional and recessional of
candidates as well as individual recognition of each person and hooding of
doctoral candidates. Two large screens will broadcast graduates accepting their
degrees so that those sitting farther away from the stage will be able to see
individual graduates up close.
The student speaker is LaTisha Clark, who is earning a bachelor of science
degree in computer science. A student senator, she is an active member of
several student government and university committees, a member of the Society of
Women Engineers and founder of the Computer Science Club. Clark is a graduate of
Meridian Charter High School where she was student body president, was on the
dean’s list at Blackburn College, and is a Technology Services honor worker. She
has accepted a position as a software engineer at Micron Technology, where she
has been working as a student intern.
Prior to the ceremony, graduates and their families are invited to a free
pre-ceremony celebration beginning at 8 a.m. in the Bronco Gym, located in the
Kinesiology Building across from Taco Bell Arena. Hosted by the Boise State
Alumni Association, the event will include a continental breakfast and a
professional photographer who will be available to take photos of graduates with
classmates and family.
A reception for graduates and families will be held immediately following the
ceremony in the Student Union Jordan Ballroom. Each college will have a
specially designated area where graduates can meet family and friends after the
ceremony.
Boise State will broadcast the ceremony live on the web for those who cannot
attend in person. In addition, the ceremony will be aired on Public Access
Television at 10 a.m. Dec. 23 and 2 p.m. Dec. 24.
