This Week at Boise State
Editor’s note: Due to the end of the fall semester, “This Week at Boise
State” will take a hiatus, returning in January.
The following are upcoming events at Boise State University for the week of Dec.
10-16. Please note that all events are subject to change. For updated

EXHIBITIONS:
Dec. 9-Jan. 5: Annual High School Art Exhibit. Student Union Gallery. 7
a.m.-11 p.m. daily. Eleven local high schools will show the work of student

SUNDAY, DEC. 10
Clay and Fire Exhibition and Sale. Visual Arts Center Gallery 1 in the
Liberal Arts Building. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. This event also takes place Dec. 11.
Hundreds of high-quality ceramics, ranging from the elegant to the exotic, will
be on sale. Proceeds benefit the Boise State Visiting Artists in Ceramics

“Tim and Harvey, Together Again.” Morrison Center Main Hall. 2 and 5 p.m.
They shared a sound stage together for a decade on CBS’ wildly popular “The
Carol Burnett Show.” Now, Tim Conway and Harvey Korman are sharing a concert

Finals Relief. Various campus locations. Through Dec. 14. Free coffee,
snacks, massages and other giveaways will be provided for students during finals

THURSDAY, DEC. 14
Toy and Clothing Drive. Boise State University Volunteer Services Board
is requesting toy and clothing donations to help bring cheer and good tidings to
285 children in Owyhee, Nev. Collection bins located in Student Union Building,
Albertson Library and Multi-Purpose Building. Donations accepted through Dec.

FRIDAY, DEC. 15
Winter Commencement. Taco Bell Arena. 10 a.m. The ceremony will include
the processional and recessional of candidates as well as individual recognition
of each person and the hooding of four doctoral candidates. No tickets needed

The Nutcracker. Morrison Center. 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. The classic ballet
comes to life through Ballet Idaho, which has made this performance a Boise
tradition. This event also takes place Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; and Dec. 17

Institute choirs will present their annual Christmas concert. $14 general, $10

Holiday Equipment Rental Special. REC. Dec. 21-Jan. 3. Enjoy your holiday
season with the Outdoor Program’s rental special. Pick up any rental equipment
on Dec. 21 and return it on Jan. 3 and pay only a four-day rental fee. That’s a

Bill Engvall. Morrison Center. 8 p.m. Comedian Bill Engvall got his big
break on “The Tonite Show” with Johnny Carson. Since then, Engvall has toured
with Jeff Foxworthy, recorded several albums and appeared on the WB’s “Blue

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 17
Jesse Jackson. Taco Bell Arena. 7 p.m. Human rights leader and political
activist Rev. Jesse Jackson will speak as part of Boise State University’s
Martin Luther King Jr./Human Rights Celebration. Jackson’s lecture is titled
“With Justice for All: Human Rights and Civil Rights a Reality.” The event is
free, but tickets are required. Student tickets are available at the Student

The Chieftains. Morrison Center. 8 p.m. Six-time Grammy winners The
Chieftains will perform their unique blend of Irish music. The group began in

Poetry Workshop and Poetry Slam. Student Union Jordan Ballroom. Workshop

Rights Celebration, Student Activities and the Associated Students of Boise
State University present a poetry workshop and poetry slam with featured guest
SHIHAN and special guest Kritik. Some content may not be suitable for children.

Frank Church Conference on Public Affairs. Student Union Jordan Ballroom.
8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. This year’s conference focuses on global warming. The day
sessions are free and open to the public. Former Vice President Gore will give
the keynote address, titled “Global Warming: Beyond the Inconvenient Truth,” in
