Students Seek Donations for Refugees
The Organization of Student Social Workers at Boise State University is seeking
donations to help with a gala holiday celebration for refugee families in the
Treasure Valley. Members of OSSW have spent the semester raising funds in
support of the Agency for New Americans’ holiday party. The party is scheduled
for Dec. 16 at Saint Michael’s Episcopal Church.
The event is a non-secular evening of song, dance, food, and children’s arts and
crafts designed to introduce the refugees to American holiday traditions. More
than 70 refugee families will receive gifts, with Toys for Tots supplying
children’s presents. OSSW is seeking donations of gifts for teens and adults,
including household items such as pots and pans, sheets and cooking utensils.
The group is also collecting hygiene items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste,
shampoo, soap and individually wrapped toilet paper.
Donations can be made by contacting OSSW faculty adviser Robin Allen at 426-4290
or rallen@boisestate.edu. In
addition, several donation bins are located across campus.
