Ring in the Year of the Pig
at Boise State University
Celebrate the year of the pig at the Lunar New Year Festival 2007, presented by
the Boise State University Vietnamese Student Association, at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 27
in the Student Union Jordan Ballroom. Admission is $10 general and $5 for
students with ID. Admission is free for children younger than 6. Tickets are
available through Select-a-Seat, (208) 426-1494.
The festival will include entertainment such as traditional songs and dances, as
well as a dinner featuring Vietnamese dishes such as egg rolls and a dessert
made with sticky rice. Tickets also will be available for a raffle that will
feature items from Vietnam, among others.
Tet Nguyen Dan, or the Lunar New Year, is the most important holiday in Vietnam,
commemorating the return of spring with a grand celebration that is like
Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year all rolled into one. Vietnamese who live
outside the country usually celebrate with the same traditions, food and customs
they grew up with.
