Ring in the Year of the Pig at Boise State University

Celebrate the year of the pig at the Lunar New Year Festival 2007, presented by the Boise State University Vietnamese Student Association, at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 27 in the Student Union Jordan Ballroom. Admission is $10 general and $5 for students with ID. Admission is free for children younger than 6. Tickets are available through Select-a-Seat, (208) 426-1494.

The festival will include entertainment such as traditional songs and dances, as well as a dinner featuring Vietnamese dishes such as egg rolls and a dessert made with sticky rice. Tickets also will be available for a raffle that will feature items from Vietnam, among others.

Tet Nguyen Dan, or the Lunar New Year, is the most important holiday in Vietnam, commemorating the return of spring with a grand celebration that is like Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year all rolled into one. Vietnamese who live outside the country usually celebrate with the same traditions, food and customs they grew up with.
