Bowl Win Creates Surge in Interest; Students Can Still Apply for Spring Semester, Which Starts Today

The Boise State football team’s dramatic victory in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl has created a spike in admissions inquiries from prospective students locally, throughout the state and nationwide.

According to university officials, graduate students, local high schoolers, students from Idaho, and students from out of state have requested information about Boise State since the Broncos’ 43-42 overtime win over Oklahoma.

In his Spring Update speech last week, President Bob Kustra noted that online inquiries have increased 135 percent since the Broncos’ bowl game victory on New Year’s Day. And according to Teresa Church, Boise State’s associate director of admissions, the university has received admission inquiries from as far away as Maryland, Maine, New York and West Virginia.

Moreover, Boise State’s graduate school has received 10 times as many application inquiries as it normally does in early January. “There is only one reason for this, obviously, and that would be the Fiesta Bowl and the national attention that has been focused on Boise State,” Kustra said in his speech.

For students who want to get started right away, the timing could be just right because it’s not too late to apply for spring 2007 semester classes, which begin today. Those who apply for admission now will need to do so on a part-time nondegree-seeking basis, which means they are limited to seven credits and are not eligible for federal financial aid.

Although financial aid is not available to nondegree-seeking students, the university offers a convenient payment plan. For more information, contact the Boise State New Student Information Center at (208) 426-1820.

Also, nondegree-seeking graduate students may take a limited number of credits prior to admission to a graduate program. For more information call (208) 426-3903.

Students may also still enroll full time in career training programs offered by Boise State’s Selland College of Applied Technology. To learn more, call (208) 426-1431.

In addition, the deadline for financial aid for fall 2007 is approaching. To be considered for scholarships and to receive priority consideration for federal financial aid, all admission materials for new and transfer students must be received in the Admissions Office by Feb. 15.
