Parade, "Statehouse Salute"
Highlight Saturday's Events Honoring Tostitos Fiesta Bowl Champions
Bronco football fans throughout the Treasure Valley will have an opportunity to
honor the fifth-ranked and undefeated Tostitos Fiesta Bowl champs Saturday
afternoon with a parade and “Statehouse Salute” on the steps of the Capitol. The
festivities will continue into the late afternoon and evening in conjunction
with the Hawaii-Boise State men’s basketball game in Taco Bell Arena with a
pregame autograph session with the members of the football team, a ceremony
honoring the Broncos at halftime of the basketball game, and a postgame “photo
opportunity” where fans attending the game will be able to take their pictures
with the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl trophy.
Parade for Bronco Players and Coaches
The parade will begin at 3 p.m. It will include Boise State’s ROTC honor guard,
the Keith Stein Blue Thunder Marching Band, the Maneline Dancers, the Boise
State Spirit Squad, and the 2006 Boise State football team’s coaches and
players. Because of the cold weather and the day’s other scheduled activities,
the parade route will be short — less than one mile — starting on the Boise
State campus at the corner of Diploma and Capitol Boulevard, traveling north on
Capitol Boulevard directly to the Statehouse.
No parking will be allowed on Capitol Boulevard along the parade route or on
Jefferson from Sixth Street to Eighth Street. No vendors will be allowed inside
the crowd line along the parade route. Starting at 1:30 p.m. free parking for
paradegoers will be available on the Boise State campus on a first-come,
first-served basis in the Towers parking lot and the Brady Parking Structure.
Downtown parking garages and surface lots will be open and accessible to the
public under normal operations.
At approximately 2:30 p.m., the Boise Police Department will take the following
steps until the parade has completed its route:
• Capitol Boulevard north of University Drive will be closed to all traffic.
Traffic will be diverted to eastbound University Drive or westbound toward
Ann Morrison Park.
• Myrtle will be diverted southbound on Ninth Street.
• Front Street will be diverted north/south bound at Third Street.
• All other cross streets will be closed to through traffic.
• Capitol Boulevard and cross streets along the parade route will reopen as the
spectator traffic allows. The estimated reopening time is 3:45 p.m.
“Statehouse Salute” on Capitol Steps
The parade will end at the state Capitol for the Statehouse Salute, where coach
Chris Petersen and his team will be honored by university, local and state
officials and the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl trophy will be publicly displayed in
Boise for the first time. Gene Bleymaier, Boise State athletic director, will
serve as emcee. Scheduled speakers include Gov. Butch Otter, Boise Mayor Dave
Bieter, Boise State President Bob Kustra, a representative for the players, and
Karl Benson, the commissioner of the Western Athletic Conference. The event will
include an official trophy presentation by Tostitos Fiesta Bowl representatives.
Capitol Boulevard north of Idaho Street and Bannock and Jefferson from Sixth
Street to Eight Street will remain closed during the Statehouse Salute. Those
streets are expected to reopen to traffic at around 4:45 p.m.
Pregame Autograph Session
From 5-6:30 p.m. a pregame autograph session featuring the members of the Bronco
football team will be held at Boise State’s Caven-Williams Sports Complex. To
expedite the session and allow as many autographs to be signed as possible in a
limited amount of time, autograph-seekers will be allowed no more than two items
each for players to sign. Fans are also reminded that the Caven-Williams Sports
Complex will hold no more than 3,500 people at one time, and standing in line —
inside our outside the indoor practice facility —does not guarantee access to
the players who are signing autographs. To ensure the football players’
attendance at the basketball game, they will leave Caven-Williams no later than
6:30 p.m., and autograph-seekers should plan accordingly.
The following parking arrangements will be in effect for both the pregame
autograph session and the basketball game:
• The west stadium lot will have limited disabled parking.
• There will be no public parking in the west stadium lot or Bronco Circle and
spaces will be made available to Bronco Athletic Association basketball permit
holders only.
• Other on-campus parking lots will open to the public starting at 4 p.m.
Parking will be available to the public for $5.
• Vehicles with valid Boise State reserve, general or special permits, including
Boise State accessible permits, may park in event fee-payment parking areas free
of charge.
• The lots available for Saturday evening’s festivities include the east stadium
lot, Student Union visitors’ lot, the lots located south of University Drive and
the Brady Parking Structure.
• The Athletic Department will provide free shuttles to Taco Bell Arena from
event parking areas.
• Parking attendants will direct motorists to the nearest available parking lot.
Boise State Parking and Transportation Services expects heavy traffic on the
campus for these events, and motorists are encouraged to arrive early and
provide themselves with plenty of time to park.
Halftime Ceremony
Tickets to the Hawaii-Boise State basketball are $4 per person, and children 12
and under accompanied by an adult will be admitted for free. The game starts at
7 p.m. The halftime ceremony honoring Petersen and his players and fellow
coaches will include a video replay of the three “trick plays” in the Broncos’
Tostitos Fiesta Bowl win over Oklahoma, an unveiling of the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl
trophy, and brief remarks from President Kustra and Petersen.
Postgame Photo Opportunity
Fans attending the game will have the opportunity for a close look at the
Tostitos Fiesta Bowl trophy. The trophy will be on display in Taco Bell Arena’s
Auxiliary Gym after the game, and fans will have the opportunity to bring the
cameras and take photographs of themselves with the Broncos’ championship
hardware.
