Boise State University MFA Reading Series Continues this Spring with Poetry

The Boise State University MFA Reading Series continues during spring semester with appearances by five visiting poets. All of the readings are free and open to the public.

• Clayton Eshleman. 7:30-9 p.m. Jan. 31, Student Union Bishop Barnwell Room. Eshleman has written, edited and translated many collections of poetry and prose, including “The Name Encanyoned River,” “César Vallejo: The Complete Posthumous Poetry,” “Sulfur,” “Juniper Fuse,” “Upper Paleolithic Imagination and the Construction of the Underworld,” “The Complete Poetry of César Vallejo” and “An Alchemist With One Eye on Fire.”

• Alice Notley. 7:30-9 p.m. Feb. 26, Student Union Bishop Barnwell Room. Notley is the author of the collections “Incidentals in the Day World,” “When I Was Alive,” “Waltzing Matilda,” “Margaret and Dusty,” and “How Spring Comes.” She also is the author of an autobiography, “Tell Me Again.”

• Brenda Coultas. 7:30-9 p.m. March 16, Liberal Arts Room 106. Coultas is the author of “A Handmade Museum” and her work has appeared in Conjunctions, Epoch, Fence and Open City.

• Karen Volkman. 7:30-9 p.m. April 6, Liberal Arts Room 106. Volkman is the author of “Spar” and is the winner of the Iowa Poetry Prize and the James Laughlin Award. Her work has appeared in “The Best American Poetry” and “The Pushcart Prize Anthology.”

• Nathaniel Mackey. 7:30-9 p.m. April 27, the Hemingway Center. Mackey is the author of five poetry chapbooks, as well as “Strick: Song of the Andoumboulou 16-25,” a CD of poems read with musical accompaniment. Three volumes of an ongoing prose composition, “From a Broken Bottle Traces of Perfume Still Emanate,” have been published.

The MFA Reading Series brings nationally recognized authors and poets to the Boise State campus. Past speakers include Rick Bass, Chris Offutt, Rae Armantrout, Cole Swensen, Michael Palmer, Joy Williams and Denis Johnson. Recent works by the author will be available for purchase through the Boise State Bookstore at each reading.
