Social Workers and Students
Invited to Legislative Advocacy Days, Feb. 19-20
Social work students and professionals from across Idaho are invited to enjoy
two days of education and legislative engagement at the 2007 NASW-Idaho
Legislative Advocacy Days. The program, organized by a committee of
undergraduate and graduate social work students from Boise State University and
Idaho State University, is from noon Feb. 19 to 1 p.m. Feb. 20 at various
locations in Boise.
The event begins with a keynote address on advocacy and ethics by Patricia Roth
at 12:30 p.m. Feb. 19. Roth has worked in the field of social work in the
Treasure Valley since 1987 and currently provides clinical social work services
for patients and families of St. Luke’s Home Care. She is passionate about her
role as an advocate and mediator, and has been involved in the field of ethics
for the past 10 years. She is a member of the Clinical Ethics Committee at St.
Luke’s Regional Medical Center and is a bedside ethics consultant. She also
teaches ethics classes at the high school and college level.
The program also features a panel discussion on advocacy in social work
practice, an ice cream social, an orientation to the Capitol and how to approach
legislators, and an opportunity to attend committee meetings and meet with
legislators.
Sessions are held at St. Luke’s, Boise State University, Joe R. Williams
Building (the Hall of Mirrors) and the Statehouse. Ethics CEUs are available.
Cost is $10 for students and $25 for social workers. Conference fees include
admission to all conference sessions, snacks, breakfast, materials and CEUs.
Registration deadline is Feb. 14. Full information and a registration form will
be posted on the School of Social Work Web site at
