Free tickets will
be released starting Thursday, Feb. 1, for an upcoming presentation by Jamie
Hyneman and Adam Savage, hosts of the Discovery Channel’s “MythBusters”
television series. The event is at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, in the Taco Bell
Arena at Boise State University.
Boise State’s College of Engineering, along with the Micron Technology
Foundation and a number of other corporate sponsors, is presenting “MythBusters”
as part of the college’s yearlong 10th anniversary celebration and National
Engineers Week.
“I can’t think of better amazing ambassadors to reach out to students with the
message that engineering is fun and fascinating,” said Cheryl Schrader, dean of
the College of Engineering at Boise State.
“Micron believes that supporting math, science and engineering education is
critical to cultivating tomorrow’s technology leaders,” said Mark Durcan, Micron
chief operating officer and National Engineers Week presenter. “In celebration
of National Engineers Week, Micron is delighted to help bring MythBusters to
Boise to spark a passion for engineering in our local youth.”
Although the “MythBusters” event is free, tickets are required to attend.
Limited seating is available. The public can pick up a maximum of four tickets
per person starting at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Taco Bell Arena box office and
the Student Union Information Desk on the Boise State campus, and at the Student
Services Office Room 107 on the Boise State West campus, located in Nampa just
north of the Idaho Center off of Can-Ada Road.
Since “MythBusters” first premiered on the Discovery Channel in January 2003,
millions of households have tuned in each week to watch the cast and crew build
amazing contraptions which they frequently destroy in the process of confirming
or busting a wide variety of urban myths, folklore and legends.
The multi-media “MythBusters” presentation on Feb. 25 at Boise State includes a
lecture featuring Savage and Hyneman, a video of “bloopers” from the show, and
an opportunity for audience members to ask questions. No myths will be busted
onstage.
Along with Boise State’s College of Engineering, the “MythBusters” event is
presented by the Micron Technology Foundation, Albertsons/SUPERVALU Foundation,
Washington Group International, Hewlett-Packard, Idaho Power Co., Power
Engineers and HDR engineering.
