Boise State University Department of Art Showcases its Best During Open House

The Boise State University Department of Art will open its doors to the public with demonstrations, exhibitions and more from 5:30-8:30 March 16. The open house will begin in the new Fine Arts Building, located at Capitol Village on University Drive, and will extend to the Visual Arts Center galleries and the Public Affairs/Arts West Building. The event is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served.

This event is a chance for participants to discover the best that the department has to offer. Attendees will be able to get a first-hand look at the art being created by Boise State professors and students. There will be several studio exhibitions, including:

• Jill Fitterer, printmaking demonstration
• John Taye, carving/sculpture demonstration
• Breccia experimental music performance
• Liz Wiatr, contemporary film screening
• Ron Taylor, wheel throwing ceramics demonstration
• Anika Smulovitz, art metals demonstration
• Thomas Lewis, contemporary film screening

In addition, visitors can check out the Visual Arts Center gallery in the Liberal Arts Building, which was recently renovated to better showcase art. The Fine Arts building opened last year as a new home for the printmaking and graphic design sections of the department.

This open house continues the Department of Art’s tradition of serving the community through lectures, workshops and demonstrations. Ongoing series include the Visiting Artist and Scholars Series and the Art Metals Visiting Artist Series, featuring an appearance this month by Tricia Lachowiec. Lachowiec, an art metals jewelry artist, will give a lecture at 7 p.m. March 10 and a workshop from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. March 10-11. For more information on her appearance, call (208) 426-4060.
