Boise State Student in Running for Two National Awards

Amy Michels, an undergraduate in the School of Social Work at Boise State University, was honored on March 7 in Seattle, Wash., as the regional candidate for the prestigious Ann Phipps Memorial Scholarship. The region includes Alaska, Washington, Oregon and Idaho.

The award, sponsored by Head Start, is based on a parent’s service, accomplishments and/or activities related to continuous personal and career development. After advancing from the city and state levels, Michels is now competing against nine other regional winners for the national award.

Michels is also the recipient of the Soroptimist International of Caldwell Woman’s Opportunity Award, and has been advanced to the national level and a chance at $10,000.

Michels is the mother of a five-year-old daughter, Elizabeth. A 1996 graduate of Riverside University High School in Milwaukee, she will receive her bachelor’s degree in social work at Boise State in May.
