Idaho Small Business Development Center Clients Outplace Non-clients in 2006 with Business Growth, New Jobs

The Idaho Small Business Development Center, headquartered at Boise State University, helped Idaho entrepreneurs raise $36 million in 2006, grow their companies more than four times faster than the average Idaho business and add seven times as many new jobs as their average non-client counterparts.

An annual impact report for 2006 released this month by the Idaho SBDC measured the success of the center in serving its small business clients throughout the state.

“Idaho Small Business Development Center clients consistently out-perform the average Idaho small business,” said state director Jim Hogge. “Solid business practices and smart decisions are keys to survival and success, and that’s where the Idaho SBDC adds value.”

The report also noted the following impacts for 2006:
— The Idaho SBDC served 1,640 clients with tailored, one-on-one consulting and 2,859 individuals with focused, high-impact training
— 1,800 jobs were saved or created
— Sales increased by $66 million
— Clients generated $6 million in additional state and federal tax revenues
— For every $1 invested in the program, there was a $5 return to the state’s economy

About 97 percent of Idaho firms are considered small businesses — those with 500 or fewer employees. The Idaho SBDC is a statewide network with six offices located at Idaho’s state colleges and universities. The program provides no-cost confidential business consulting and affordable trainings and seminars to Idaho’s for-profit small businesses. Through a partnership with the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality, the Idaho SBDC also provides environmental regulatory assistance. The center serves clients in all of Idaho’s 44 counties.
