This Week at Boise State
The following are upcoming events at Boise State University for the week of
March 25-31. Because Boise State’s spring break is March 26-30, an extended list
of upcoming events is included in this week’s release. Please note that all
events are subject to change. For updated information on all events, visit

EVENTS OF SPECIAL NOTE:
March: Women’s History Month. Celebrate Women’s History Month during
March at Boise State. Events include a film festival, musical performances,
speakers, an art exhibit and more. For a full list of events, visit

EXHIBITIONS:
Through March 30: “Women’s History Month Juried Art Exhibition.” Student
Union Gallery. Open 7 a.m.-11 p.m. daily. This exhibition displays various art
mediums from women artists from around the country. The art was selected by
jurors Laurie Blakeslee, Julie Clemons and Jennie Myers. Free. Call 426-1223.
MONDAY, MARCH 26
Spring break. No university classes March 26-30.
FRIDAY, MARCH 30
“Science and Religion: A Philosopher's View.” The Cabin, 801 S. Capitol
Blvd. 7 p.m. This free lecture by John Hawthorne, Waynflete Chair in
Metaphysical Philosophy at Oxford, is part of the 10th annual Inland Northwest
Philosophy Conference. The event is free and open to the public; a discussion
period and reception follow.
SATURDAY, MARCH 31
Seven Arrows Powwow. Student Union Jordan Ballroom. 10 a.m.-about
midnight. Join the Boise State University Intertribal Native Council in the 14th
Annual Powwow, which will include all-age dance competitions, a drum group
competition and more. This event also takes place 11 a.m.-about 5 p.m. April 1.
Grand entries at noon and 7 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday. General admission
tickets $5, free for seniors over 65 and children under five. For more

MONDAY, APRIL 2
Canada Week. April 2-6. Boise State University’s Canadian Studies Program
presents this weeklong event aimed at a better understanding of Canadian
commerce, politics, public policy and culture, as well as the U.S.-Canada
relationship. Canada Week features an address by the Canadian Ambassador to the
U.S., a full-length film, presentations by Canadian speakers on the 2010
Vancouver Olympics, border security, urban planning and more. For a full list of

Canada Week: 10 Years of 2010: Maximizing the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and
Paralympic Winter Games Opportunities. Student Union Barnwell Room. 7-9 p.m.
Presented by Ray LeBlond, Vancouver 2010 Speaker’s Bureau and corporate
communication director for Tourism BC. Free. Free parking in the Student Union

TUESDAY, APRIL 3
Infant Massage Workshop. Student Union Farnsworth Room. 6:30-8:30 p.m. In
this workshop, parents and caregivers will learn the art of infant massage
through guided instruction. Registration is $15, including instructional

Gene Harris Jazz Festival. Various locations. April 4-7. The 10th annual
Gene Harris Jazz Festival will honor the legacy of the late piano great with an

THURSDAY, APRIL 5
Fettuccine Forum. Rose Room, 718 W. Idaho Street. Doors open at 5 p.m.;
presentation 5:30 p.m. Artist Karen Bubb will speak on “Boise’s Urban Artscape”
as part of the Fettuccine Forum lecture series. Bubb’s presentation will include
an artists’ panel with Ward Hooper, Kerry Moosman and Elizabeth Wolf, who will
each speak briefly about their own work and involvement in the public arts

SPB film: ‘Disturbia.’ Special Events Center. 7 p.m. Student Programs
Board presents a special advanced screening of “Disturbia,” a thriller that will
be released theatrically April 13. This film is rated PG-13. Free tickets are

FRIDAY, APRIL 6
Berenstain Bears on Stage. Morrison Center. 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
Presented by ENCORE! Series, this musical is made up of scenes from the five
best-selling Berenstain Bear books by Stan and Jan Berenstain, “Messy Room,”
“Get in a Fight,” “Double Dare,” “New Baby” and “Stage Fright.” Tickets are $6
for adults and $4 for students. One complimentary chaperone ticket will be
provided for every 15 student tickets purchased. Call 426-1034.
MFA Reading Series. Liberal Arts Building, Room 106. 7:30 p.m. Poet Karen
Volkman will present a reading. Volkman is the author of “Spar,” winner of the

“Reverse Discrimination: Fact or Fiction?” Cultural Center Lounge. 1-2
p.m. Join Boise State sociology professor Martin Orr as he discusses the issues
of discrimination in dominant and non-dominant cultures. Free. Call 426-5950.
TUESDAY, APRIL 10
Boise Schools Career Fair. Taco Bell Arena. 10 a.m. The Boise Metro
Chamber of Commerce and area businesses sponsor the career fair, which shows
students the myriad of career choices that await them in the “real world.” The
fair will also educate students on how to select and achieve career goals. Free.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 11
“A Buddhist History of the United States.” Morrison Center Stage II. 7:30
p.m. Presented by the Boise State University Theatre Arts Department, professor
Phil Atlakson creates a bold and radical restaging of events in American
history, utilizing the performance and conventions of the Noh drama of Japan.
This event will also take place April 12-14 and 18-21 at 7:30 p.m. and April 14,
15 and 21 at 2 p.m. Mature audiences only. Tickets are $12 general admission,
$10 non-Boise State students, seniors, Boise State alumni and military.

HIV Counseling and Testing. Student Union Building (check kiosk the day

Bring Your Own Voice. Cultural Center Lounge. 4-6 p.m. The Boise State
Cultural Center presents this writing workshop where writers can share their
work with friends and peers. Writers can learn new skills and develop their

SATURDAY, APRIL 14
Health and Human Performance Club Fun Run/Walk. Meet in front of
Kinesiology Building. 8:30 a.m. Start the spring right with a community event to
bring students and their families and friends together to benefit the Boise
State Kinesiology Department. Route for the 5K or 10k run/walk will be along the
Greenbelt. Free T-shirt and a raffle prizes will be available for participants.
