Boise State University 'A-Team' Hosts Food, Supply Drive for City
Light Home for Women and Children
Seven Boise State University students known as the “A-Team” will host a food and
supplies drive for the City Light Home for Women and Children from 10 a.m.-5
p.m. April 14 in the Bronco Stadium parking lot.
Community members are encouraged to donate 30-gallon trash bags, Pedialyte
(liquid or freezer pops), feminine hygiene products, razors, dental floss,
clothing items, food (including meat, fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy
products, cereal, juice and eggs), paper products, study Bibles, baby items, bus
passes and vitamins. Donations may be new or gently used.
The A-Team is a group of students enrolled in a leadership class who are
learning how to effect positive change in the community; the group has decided
to focus its efforts on the problem of poverty in Idaho. According to a 2005
study by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Idaho was ranked as the eighth
hungriest state in the county. The U.S. Census lists the Idaho child poverty
rate at 16 percent, and estimates that one of every eight children in Idaho goes
to bed hungry on a daily basis. The students chose to help the City Light Home
based on those statistics.
City Light provides shelter and meals for women and children who are seeking to
move off the streets. The home also contains the year-long New Life Drug/Alcohol
Recovery Program and houses 15 women and 11 children.
