Boise State Celebrates the Life and Work of Samuel Beckett During
Film Festival, Exhibition

Fans of Samuel Beckett will get a chance to learn more about his life and
watch many of his works during the Beckett Film Festival and Exhibition April
13-14. The event is sponsored by the Boise State University Department of
English, the Irish Consul in San Francisco, the Boise State English Majors
Association, Sigma Tau Delta, and the Boise State MFA program.
Beckett, who was born just outside Dublin, Ireland, was one of the most
acclaimed dramatists and writers of the 20th century. He received the Nobel
Prize for Literature in 1969 and his most famous play, “Waiting for Godot,” has
been taught extensively in high schools and universities.
The Beckett Film Festival and Exhibition coincides with the anniversary of
Beckett’s birth on April 13. All of the events are free and open to the public.
• April 13, Student Union Lookout Room: 6-8 p.m., exhibition open house; 8-9
p.m., screening of “Krapp’s Last Tape,” directed by Atom Egoyan and featuring
John Hurt; 9-10 p.m., exhibition open house. Featuring photos and information on
Beckett’s life and work.
• April 14, Liberal Arts Room 106: Film festival.
• 8-8:12 a.m.: “What Where,” directed by Damien O’Donnell and featuring Sean

featuring Jim Norton, Timothy Spall and Hugh B. O’Brien.
• 11:30-11:31 a.m.: “Breath,” directed by Damien Hirst and featuring the voice
of Keith Allan.
• 11:31-12:01 p.m.: “That Time,” directed by Charles Garrad and featuring Niall
Buggy.
• 12:05-1:25 p.m.: “End Game,” directed by Conor McPherson and featuring Michael
Gambon, David Thewlis, Charles Simon and Jean Anderson.
• 1:30-1:41 p.m.: “Act Without Words II,” directed by Enda Hughes and featuring
Pat Kinevane and Marcello Magni.
• 1:45-2:05 p.m.: “A Piece of Monologue,” directed by Robin Lefevre and
featuring Stephen Brennan.
