Boise Chamber Music Series Wraps Up with the Alexander String Quartet

The Alexander String Quartet

The 2006-2007 Boise Chamber Music Series culminates at 8 p.m. April 20 at the Morrison Center Recital Hall with a performance by the Alexander String Quartet, a world-class quartet from the San Francisco Bay Area. Tickets are $20-$25 by calling (208) 426-1216 or e-mailing jbelfy@boisestate.edu. The Boise Chamber Music Series is sponsored by the Boise Chamber Music Society and the Boise State University Department of Music.

The Alexander String Quartet, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2006, has performed in the major music capitals of four continents, securing its standing among the world’s premier ensembles. Widely admired for its interpretations of Beethoven, Mozart and Shostakovich, the quartet has also established itself as an important advocate of new music.

The Boise Chamber Music Series concert will feature Mozart’s “Divertimento, K. 136,” Bartok’s “First Quartet,” and Beethoven’s “Opus 132.”

The Alexander String Quartet also will be in residence to judge the Boise Chamber Music Society’s second annual Young Artists String Quartet Competition from 9:30 a.m.-noon April 21 in the Morrison Center Recital Hall. Six college- and high school-age quartets will perform a selected repertoire; first-place winners will receive cash prizes, and will perform a reprise recital at 2 p.m. April 22 in the Morrison Center Recital Hall. That recital is free and open to the public.

For more information, call (208) 426-1216.
