Boise State Hosts Victims' Right Week Events April 23-26

A series of workshops at Boise State University will mark National Crime Victims’ Rights Week April 23-26. Hosted by Boise State and the Department of Criminal Justice, workshops are aimed at students and members of the general public who are interested in victimization, victims’ experiences in our nations’ justice systems, victim advocates and victim/witness coordinators, and the history of the victims’ rights movement.

Workshops will be held in the Student Union Building beginning at 8:30 a.m. and ending at 7:30 p.m. each day. A complete schedule of events can be found at http://cja.boisestate.edu/victims.htm.

• Meeting the Mental Health Needs of Crime Victims
• Victimology
• Crime Victim Compensation

April 24, Student Union Hatch A/B Ballroom
• Dynamics of the Criminal Justice System
• Specific Justice Systems
• Domestic Violence
• Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Scenario Training
April 25, Student Union Hatch A/B Ballroom
• Information and Financial Crimes
• Victimization of the Elderly
• Sexual Violence
• Victims’ Rights Statute and Victim/Witness Services
April 26, Student Union Hatch C/D Ballroom
• Victimization of People with Disabilities
• Fostering Integrity (Criminal Justice Ethics)
• Child Victimization
• Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender Victims and Domestic Violence

Presenters from across the state will facilitate each of these workshops, including professors and practitioners from Boise State, Idaho State, University of Idaho, Women’s & Children’s Alliance, Idaho Crime Victim Compensation, Ada County Sheriff’s Office, Idaho Office of the Attorney General, State Independent Living Council and the Idaho Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence. Attorney General Lawrence Wasden will conduct a Monday night workshop on the ProtecTeens Program, while Ada County Sheriff Gary Raney will facilitate an ethics workshop on Thursday morning.
