Five Boise State Health Sciences Faculty, Staff Honored

Bonnie Lind Linda Osgood Pam Gehrke Sue Crichton Pat Taylor

Five Boise State faculty and staff members were honored with 2007 College of Health Sciences Awards at the annual scholarship ceremony on April 27. The awards recognize outstanding teaching, research and service. Honorees are:

Excellence in Faculty Research Award: Bonnie Lind, Ph.D., associate research professor and director of research for the Idaho Nursing Workforce Center. Lind is the former assistant director of Boise State’s Center for Health Policy and has extensive experience in research, with emphasis areas in health services and cardiovascular disease.

Excellence in Faculty Service Award: Linda Osgood, instructor, Department of Community and Environmental Health. In May 2006, Osgood received the Distinguished Member award from the Idaho Health Information Management Association. This past year she served as interim director of the IHIM program and also was named president-elect.

Excellence in Faculty Teaching Award:
Pam Gehrke, associate professor, Department of Nursing. Gehrke has taught at Boise State since 1987. She teaches Community Health Nursing, involving her students in several community projects. Her policy courses are known for their advocacy skill development. In addition to pursuing research interests in community health, public health, home health and childhood immunizations, she is an active participant in numerous local and state boards and task forces.

Excellence in Staff Service Award: Sue Crichton, administrative assistant, Department of Radiologic Sciences. An employee of Boise State since November 2000, Crichton is the assistant building coordinator for the Health Sciences Riverside building. She currently serves as treasurer and president-elect of Boise State University Association of Office Professionals (BSUAOP) and is a graduate of BSU’s Shared Leadership Institute. She has served on the planning committee for the Governor’s Conference on Housing and received an award of recognition of exceptional contributions. Crichton served in many areas for United Way and as assistant coach for the East Boise Little League.

Dean’s Award for Professional Service to the College of Health Sciences:
Pat Taylor, associate chair for student affairs and professor for the Department of Nursing. Taylor, who has served at Boise State since 1974, teaches critical care, pathophysiology and medical/surgical nursing and is nationally certified as a critical care nurse. She is also one of only two people in Idaho trained to teach the basic parish nursing preparation course. Taylor will retire this year.
