Celebrate Cinco De Mayo with Festival Hosted by Boise State
Studente Organization
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo at Boise State University from noon-6 p.m. on the
Student Union patio. The event is hosted by the Organizacion de Estudiantes
Latino Americanos and is free and open to the public.
Festivities include a performance by La Sonora Dinamita, the
internationally-known salsa and cumbia group. There will be additional
entertainment for the whole family, including a car show, inflatables for
kids, traditional performers, a Miss Cinco de Mayo contest and a jalapeño
eating contest.
Cinco de Mayo began in 1862 when the Mexican army fought the invading French
army led by Emperor Napoleon III at the Battle of Puebla. The Mexican battle
victory sparked the Mexican people to revolt and forced the French to
withdraw their claim on Mexico City and dissolve their imposed governmental
system.
