Theatre Arts Professor Ann Hoste Receives Prestigious Kennedy
Center Fellowship
 |
Boise State University theatre arts professor Ann Hoste was one of only
three people nationally to receive a Kennedy Center American College Theatre
Festival Faculty Design Fellowship. Hoste will receive a $1,500 professional
development grant from the Kennedy Center to apply to professional travel,
supplies, conferences or classes. Hoste, along with several other Boise
State professors and students, traveled to the Kennedy Center in late April
to stage alumnus Dano Madden’s production of “In the Sawtooths,” directed by
theatre arts professor Mike Baltzell. Madden took home the KCACTF National
Student Playwriting Award.
“This is another national distinction for Boise State University’s Theatre
Arts Department,” says department chair Richard Klautsch. “Our department
has performed magnificently this year and the national attention has been
well-earned. Again, congratulations to the theatre arts faculty, staff and
students for their outstanding efforts, and thank you to the BSU
administration for their continuing and enthusiastic support.”
Each of the eight regions across the United States nominated a distinguished
teaching artist in costume, scenic and lighting design. The fellowships were
determined by Beverly Emmons, winner of the Tony Obie, Bessie and Lumen
awards, and Tony Cisek, a four-time Helen Hayes Award winner and scenic and
costume designer.
Hoste received her M.A. at Southwest Missouri State University and her MFA
at the University of Texas at Austin. She is the recipient of two Idaho Arts
Commission Fellowship awards and has worked with the Zachary Scott Theater
in Austin, Great Lakes Theater Festival in Cleveland, Company of Fools in
Hailey and the Idaho Shakespeare Festival.
