J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation Announces $10M in Funding Intended
to Help Make the College of Western Idaho a Near-Future Reality
Boise, Idaho – J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation, the Boise-based family
foundation started in 1966 by Joe and Kathryn Albertson, today announced a
donation of $10M to help jump-start the College of Western Idaho in the
Treasure Valley.
“We can’t say enough about the citizens of the Treasure Valley who last week
showed their support for a comprehensive community college in this valley.
In one vote, they have accomplished what no one else has been able to
accomplish in 25 years. It is truly a historic moment for this valley and
for our state. Now that we have passed this crucial first step, the real
work begins in developing this institution. It will take everyone’s
help—businesses, individuals, community leaders, and organizations like
ours–to help make this a reality. The J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation
believes so strongly in a comprehensive community college for the region of
the state that we have decided to invest $10M immediately toward that goal.
We look forward to working together to make the College of Western Idaho
everything the Treasure Valley community wants and deserves,” said Joe
Scott, chairman of the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation.
For the past two years, the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation has
focused its efforts on increasing access to affordable, comprehensive,
high-quality community college education in the Treasure Valley. The
Treasure Valley is the nation’s largest urban center without access to a
comprehensive public community college.
The College of Western Idaho will be created almost 75 years after the
establishment of Idaho’s first community college – North Idaho College in
1933 – and almost 45 years after the formation of the College of Southern
Idaho in 1964.
