Newly Founded Boise Jazz Society to Host 'Jazz Launch Party'
on June 24
The Boise Jazz Society, a new organization comprised of community members
with the support of the Boise State University Department of Music, will
celebrate its founding with a “Jazz Launch Party” from 7:30-10:30 p.m. June
24 in the lobby of the Esther Simplot Performing Arts Academy. Doors open at
7:15 p.m. Tickets are $15; to RSVP for will-call tickets, call (208)
426-3498 or e-mail
msamball@boisestate.edu.
The New Trio, led by pianist Chuck Smith and saxophonist Sandon Mayhew, will
be the featured artists during the nightclub-style performance. Heard on a
number of recent recordings, this ensemble performs a mix of old and new
jazz repertoire.
The Boise Jazz Society is dedicated to raising awareness of jazz as art
music; promoting live jazz performance; sponsoring jazz subscription-series
concerts presented in an intimate, jazz-club environment; enhancing
educational opportunities by producing a series of lectures, workshops and
master classes; and providing information to the community on local and
regional jazz activities.
