Boise State 75th Anniversary Photo Exhibition Features
Historic Snapshots from the University's History
 |
A new exhibition in Boise State University’s Student Union Gallery
showcases historic photos to mark the university’s 75th anniversary.
“Treasuring the Past, Shaping the Future: 75 Years of Boise State” will run
from Aug. 22-Sept. 19. An opening reception will be from 5-7 p.m. Aug. 24 in
the gallery. Admission is free and open to the public. Free parking during
the reception will be available in the Liberal Arts parking lot.
The exhibition features a “then and now” format, including images such as
the triumphant moments from the 1980 NCAA 1-AA football championship and the
2007 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl win; a peek inside one of the first science
laboratories and its modern counterpart; scenes from a luau in the 1940s and
the modern day annual Hui-O-Aloha Luau; as well as decade-by-decade aerial
documentation of the burgeoning campus.
The exhibition of approximately 40 photos was curated by Boise State staff
photographers John Kelly and Carrie Quinney. Along with Alan Virta and Mary
Carter-Hepworth of the Albertsons Library, they pored over hundreds of
photos from the university’s 75 years taken by past university photographers
Frank Carr, Chuck Scheer, alumni and community members.
“This has been a fun project,” Kelly said. “As we selected images, the thing
that stood out was how much has changed, but also how many experiences have
remained the same. Seeing so much history in the exact locations where we
shoot today made the past seem more relevant than before.”
“Treasuring the Past, Shaping the Future” is part of Boise State’s 75th
anniversary celebration. For more information on anniversary events, visit
