BSU Office of Advancement Hires Two New Employees

Two new employees have joined Boise State University’s Office of University Advancement.

Kelly Palmer

Kelly Palmer has been named the new director of development for the College of Social Sciences and Public Affairs, effective Aug. 20. In her new position, Palmer will work to raise funds for the college through private, corporate and foundation donations. She is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospective and major gift donors to the university.

Palmer comes to Boise State with seven years of experience in higher education fundraising. As Major Gifts Officer at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., she managed, cultivated and solicited a portfolio of 350 alumni and achieved an annual goal of at least $750,000. She was also responsible for the development of a young alumni solicitor program, as well as the recruitment, training and management of 40 volunteers.

“We are excited that Kelly has chosen to join Boise State as a development officer for the College of Social Sciences and Public Affairs. There is a need to cultivate friends and donors to move SSPA programs forward, and we look forward to working with Kelly on this,” said Shelton Woods, interim dean of the College of Social Sciences and Public Affairs.

Mike Journee

Mike Journee has been named the assistant director of media relations for the Office of Communications and Marketing, effective Aug. 20. Journee comes to Boise State from Scott Peyron & Associates and was press secretary to former Gov. Dirk Kempthorne. In his new position, he will act as media liaison to the College of Engineering and the science units of the College of Arts and Sciences, as well as working closely to develop strong media relationships.

Journee earned his bachelor’s degree in history and English, with a minor in journalism, from Stephen F. Austin State University. He worked for several years as a reporter and editor, most recently at the Idaho Statesman.
