Diverse Perspectives Film Series Kicks Off New Season at
Boise State University with 'Please Vote for Me'
A new season of the Diverse Perspectives: Community Connections
outreach film series will kick off at the Boise State University main and
West campuses with “Please Vote For Me.” The film will be shown at 5:30 p.m.
Sept. 11 in the Student Union Jordan Ballroom A and at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 15
in Room 102E of Boise State West. Both screenings are free and open to the
public.
“Please Vote For Me” takes a look at democracy in China, the world’s largest
Communist country. This film features a third-grade class in Wahun province
and the intense politicking in the race to become class monitor.
Mud-slinging, bribes, heckling, mob mentality and offers of high office in
the new administration are all part of the campaign tactics the 7-year-olds
employ. They also have speech writers in the form of Mom and Dad.
The story unfolds far from giant factories, crowded markets or even
picturesque villages. The classrooms are state-of-the-art and the children’s
homes look remarkably like middle-class urban homes in the West. The film
provides a private view of a microcosm of contemporary Chinese culture.
Following the screening, speakers will lead an audience discussion focusing
on the democratic process in the United States and in China. “Please Vote
For Me” is presented by the Boise State University Cultural Center, Idaho
Public Television, and ITVS Community Cinema.
