EXHIBITION:
Through- Oct.31. “Courageous Voices.” Student Union Gallery. With more than 50 examples on display, the artistic expressions of movements for social change come to life in this dramatic traveling poster exhibition from the Center for the Study of Political Graphics. This exhibition is on display in conjunction with Human Rights month. Free. Call 426-4636.

Saturday, Oct. 6
Classical Performances Series. Special Events Center. 8 p.m. Jose Franch-Ballester of Spain was born into a family of clarinetists and singers who specialize in the zarzuela style. With a unique, playful style that blends the beauty of the classical world and a passion for jazz, he charms audiences through his music and conversation. “Into The Streets” Community Event. Student Union Hatch Ballroom. 9 a.m. Into The Streets, held every fall, is a single day of service during which volunteers can contribute to a number of local non-profit organizations. Last year more than 175 students, faculty staff and community members volunteered more than 600 hours at more than 20 different agencies. This year, the Volunteer Services Board is looking for 300 volunteers. Volunteers will meet at the Hatch Ballroom and will be broken into groups to serve with several non-profits. Tuesday, Oct. 9
“The Deep Dark” author Gregg Olsen. Student Union Special Events Center. 7 p.m. Keynote address by Gregg Olsen, a journalist and investigative reporter who is the author of eight books. “The Deep Dark” tells the true story of the 1972 Sunshine Mine Fire in Kellogg, Idaho. The fire killed 91 miners in one of the worst mining accidents in United States history. Olsen has been featured on numerous television programs, including “Good Morning America,” “The Early Show,” “48 hours” and in many publications, including The New York Times, USA Today, People and more. MFA Reading Series Presents poet Kate Greenstreet. Multipurpose Classroom Building, Room 101. 7:30 p.m. The MFA Reading Series brings nationally renowned authors and poets to the Boise State campus. Greenstreet has published “case sensitive,” as well as three chapbooks: “Learning the Language,” “Rushes,” and “This Is Why I Hurt You,” all published by Boise State’s Ahsahta press. Free Movie, “Ratatouille.” Special Events Center. 7 p.m. The world of a rat chef comes alive with Disney-Pixar animation. Saturday, Oct. 13-14
ROTC Ranger Challenge. Quad, Greenbelt. More than 100 cadets from Boise State, ISU, BYU-Idaho, Gonzaga, Montana, Montana State, and University of Alaska, Fairbanks will converge on campus for the annual test of fitness, team-building, hand grenade assault, land navigation and more. The public is invited to participate on an inflatable obstacle course or just watch. Call 426-3550.

Distinguished Lecture Series, Louis W. Sullivan. 7 p.m. Morrison Center. Sullivan, the former U.S. secretary of Health and Human Services under President George H.W. Irene Wilcox Lecture Series on Bi-Polar Depression. Special Events Center. 9- a.m.-4 p.m. The daylong workshop features a presentation by Dr. Jayne Stevenson, a graduate of the University of Western Australia who has an ongoing practice in psychiatry in Boise. A video will be shown by Dr. Richard Kogan. Kogan has a distinguished career both as a psychiatrist and as a concert pianist. He has done ground-breaking work on the connection between music and the mind. Following the lecture will be an open discussion including case presentations with experts in the field of bi-polar depression. Free. For the 10th time in the last year 11 years, Boise State University has set an all-time record for Idaho higher education institutions with an enrollment of 19,540 – an overall increase of 3.5 percent.
