Boise State Archives Mounts New Online Exhibit of Grace Pfost Papers, Memorabilia

Special Collections in the Boise State University Albertsons Library has mounted a new online exhibit, the Gracie Pfost Gallery, at http://library.boisestate.edu/Special/GraciePfost.htm.

The gallery includes photos and documents illustrating the career of Gracie Bowers Pfost, the first woman elected to Congress from Idaho. Pfost began her political career when she was elected treasurer of Canyon County in 1940. In 1952, she was elected to Congress, where she represented Idaho’s 1st Congressional District in Washington for 10 years. She gave up her seat in Congress to wage an unsuccessful campaign for the U.S. Senate in 1962. She died in 1965.

Items on display come from the Gracie Pfost collection in Special Collections. Olivia Umphrey, a Boise State graduate student in history, processed the Pfost collection this fall. The collection’s finding aid is also posted online at http://library.boisestate.edu/Special/FindingAids/fa175.htm

A complete list of Special Collections’ online exhibits can be found online at http://library.boisestate.edu/Special/Exhibits.htm
