Boise State University TRiO Pre-College Programs Receive
Three New Upward Bound Grants
The Boise State University TRIO Pre-College Programs have received three new
Upward Bound grants that will provide services to ninth- and 10th-grade
students at Meridian, Capital, Borah and Owyhee high schools and Fairmont
and South junior highs. One hundred and fifty students will be served by the
Upward Bound services.
Each school will have a teacher who will provide an Upward Bound class where
students will receive instruction to ensure their success in high school,
graduation and enrollment in postsecondary education immediately following
high school. The students also will participate in a six-week summer program
on the Boise State campus that will provide them with opportunities to take
classes, participate in service learning, live in the dorms and model a
college experience.
These grants are in addition to the Upward Bound programs in Nampa and
Caldwell high schools, which have been funded since 1983 and serve 75
students. These four grants are also in addition to two Educational Talent
Search grants that provide service to 25 schools.
The TRiO Pre-College programs were established by Congress in 1965 to
provide education opportunities for low-income students. Boise State is home
to a number of TRiO programs, including Upward Bound, Educational Talent
Search, the TRiO Dissemination Partnership, Student Success Service, the
College Assistance Migrant Program, the High School Equivalency Program and
Multicultural Educational Opportunity.
